Butterfly seminar

Spring is fast approaching and here at DeHoff’s we are busy preparing for the upcoming season.  We are maintaining equipment and improving our systems to ensure that we are providing the best service to our customers!  The greenhouse is busy planting and transplanting all the annuals and perennials we’ll be growing in our greenhouse.  We have a number of new varieties that you will love in your garden like Angelonias.  These perky snapdragon type annual flowers are unfazed by heat and humidity.  They’ll add blues, purple, pink and white artistry to your garden or mixed container.

We recently redesigned our web page.  It has been updated with new photos of past projects, an easy form to fill out to ask us questions, and a list of inventory that we keep in stock.  Additionally, you can still order flowers 24 hours a day over a secure connection.  Our web address is www.dehoffs.com. We love virtual visitors!

Our landscaping schedule is filling up quickly for spring cleanups and new installations.  Last year we began offering a personal gardener program.  Customers that signed up for this service received a personal gardening crew to visit your property as much as necessary to maintain and complete all your landscape projects. From weed pulling to corrective pruning, let us provide you with more time to do the things you really love.  No more mulching and weeding!

If you’re thinking about a new landscape design for your home or business, call today to talk to one of our designers about creating an outdoor living area.  If you’d like to complete something this spring it’s good to set up an appointment early.  Of course, some projects don’t have to wait until spring, we can design landscape plans, or install brick patios and landscape lighting almost any time of the year!  Whether you need a new landscape, turf care, or a personal gardener, we are here to help.  Call (330) 823-1455 today for a free consultation

Since 1961, DeHoff’s customers have always come first.  We strive to help people in all aspects of horticulture.  If we can’t answer your questions we will do our best to find someone who can.

March 24

DeHoff’s Recommends:

Prolonging the life of your Valentine flowers—All flowers and plants received this time of year will last longer if you follow a few easy guidelines. Initially, it is important to protect your flowers from freezing temperatures.  The paper or plastic that your flowers are wrapped in is a temporary protective covering that will protect them for a few minutes in freezing temperatures.  Once inside, cut flowers need to be placed in water as soon as possible after re-cutting the stems.  Cut the bottom of the stems under water, removing 1-2” of stem and place the flowers directly into a vase.  Arrangements in containers will last longer if the water is changed every day.  Live plants should be kept moist,  but not wet.  Keep them cool and in lots of bright light.

Dormant Pruning—Late winter is a good time to prune most deciduous trees and shrubs.  When pruned before the growing season, it leaves a shorter period of time for the wound to be exposed to insects and disease before the new growth can heal.  A few plants that should not be pruned at this time due to flowering on old wood include: azaleas, forsythia, lilac, magnolia, cherry, plum, and chokecherry.

Watch for termites—In Northeast Ohio termites begin looking for new homes as early as March 1.  Swarms of reproductive termites can be seen around infested areas.  These winged termites eventually lose their wings as they move into their new home.  Wing remnants are sometimes sure signs of termite problems.  Wings can be 1/2 to 1 inch in length.

Landscaping comes easy to some and can be overwhelming to others.  There are times when it is best to request professional help from a landscape design/build firm.

Selling a home

An aesthetically pleasing landscape can increase the value of a home by up to 15%.  If you’re selling or about to sell a home you might want to think about a new landscape to make your home stand out from the rest.  Let DeHoff’s help you design a landscape that will get the most bang for your buck.  Removing old shrubs and installing new will create a more pleasing curb appeal to catch your buyer’s eye.

New homes

Landscaping a  new home can be a daunting task for a homeowner.  Often the wrong plants are installed and end up being removed or transplanted in a few years.  In most cases, homeowners will save money and have a better landscape by allowing a professional designer to create a landscape plan.  Then you can choose to have it installed or just follow the plan and do it yourself.

Renovation

If you have a home with an existing landscape that is not appealing, a landscape design professional can help you decide which plants to keep and which to remove.  We can use what you have available to create a landscape that will be the envy of the neighborhood.

Landscaping is an art, and the staff at DeHoff’s are artists who are enthusiastically waiting to help you improve your landscape.  Call today to speak with one of our landscape design artists! (330) 823-1455.
